re-writing stories

On the centerpiece, on the table
they have sat, unopened,
untouched save for the dust cloth.

Unwilling to admit my longing,
I fill my head with stories
of how the timing must be better,
not now,
to make the experience worthwhile.

The present moment, for months,
unworthy.

Unworthy
of experiencing the beauty,
the tranquility,
the magic
of moments like these.

Re-writing stories
by candlelight.

pandemic snowfall

“Rest easy, world,
stay inside for just a while longer,
I will soften the Earth
and wrap it in a blanket.
Watch me fall and swirl and blur,
remember to look for beauty
even amongst destruction and uncertainty.”

The snow whispers words to me.

sparkling snowflake

Amidst the brown grass
dirt-covered pavement
and branches stiff, stripped of leaves,
be the sparkling snowflake
in the not-yet-melted snowbank below.

Stand tall in your sparkle
case colorful, shimmering light around you,
make them take notice.
Bring your beauty regardless of circumstance
or comparison.
Be a one-of-a-kind sparkling snowflake.
Be you.

The sun will come out

The sun has come up today
just as the song promised yesterday
it would.

Watch, stare,
as trees, grass and houses
come into view
illuminated
by the sky turning soft blues and pinks
softly, gently.

The sun will come out tomorrow, too.

More beauty awaits us then.

My, how snowflakes

Bless us with your presence
once again, on this morning,
this new day.

Today I choose to focus on your beauty,
your grace.
How easy it is to get lost in you.
Each individual part coming together
to make the whole.
Uniqueness remains,
despite temporary dissolution into the masses.
The journey details matter not,
as long as you reach the destination.

My, what calm. My, what comfort.
My, how snowflakes can be just
like humans.
