No matter the degree
of mental preparation
of hours spent visualizing potential outcomes
sometimes
things just happen
beyond our control
and it is in those times where we need
love and compassion
above all else.

light to guide me back
I lost her
I wonder where she went
why she felt the need to get away.
I have been separated from this page
it feels like an eternity
do I remember how to do this?
Extending compassion
into a space hollow and dark
offers light,
light to guide me back.
extra love
I may need some extra love
and compassion
but I will make it through this
one day at a time
one moment at a time
one breath at a time.
Accept today
Accept that today is a different day
than yesterday.
Each day stands on its own.
A good day yesterday
cannot guarantee carryover to today.
Accept today for what it is,
what it has been already, and what it can be.
Make the best of it that you can
for that act, in itself, is a success
worth celebrating.
acknowledge the discomfort
I can acknowledge the discomfort
and the depths it reaches
down into my blood and bones.
I can see it there,
give it a name,
inspect and observe its nature,
its behavior.
Why has it chosen to bury here
in my body?
What does it yearn to tell me,
to show me?
How can I help it heal, move on?
What can I find in the space
it leaves behind?
I can acknowledge the discomfort
and grant it permission
to help me heal,
and grow.
pressure
Stop putting so much damn pressure
on yourself.
You are not in a life-or-death situation.
If you make a mistake
(what classifies a mistake anyway?)
there will be opportunities to do better next time.
If you keep holding out
scared of imagined consequences
preparing for remediation of the fallout
without taking action at all,
you will kill yourself
before getting a chance to see the success
beyond the worrying,
unwarranted.
standards
Please, oh please,
stop being so hard on yourself
day after day.
Who sets the bars, the standards
you race to meet?
The person who sets them
maintains the power to change them.
Is it you?
compassion
Practice compassion
towards others, and yourself.
We all try our best.
befriending me
Talking to myself
as I would to a friend in pain.
You don’t have to be perfect today,
or any day.
Listen to your body
and give her what she needs.
Take it easy. Be gentle.
Do what feels good.
Love yourself through this.
This is only temporary.
I’m here for you.
You are not alone.
acknowledge struggles
Acknowledge struggles,
show yourself self-compassion.
These feelings will pass.
