depend on us

All we can depend on is
us, ourselves,
the actions we take.
We can control what we do,
we’re the only ones.

Do not rely on the weather.
Take people’s comments at face value.
Believe the universe to be on our side,
but necessarily on our time frame.

All we can depend on is us,
ourselves.

magical messages

Open your heart.
Receive guidance from unexpected sources
without searching.

Believe in magic.
It surrounds you.

Surrender your learned need to feel in control
so you can receive the magical messages
meant for you.

clean start

There’s no point in trying to gain control
over anything.
Once you have it, it disappears,
or morphs,
or ropes you into submission
with the tables turned.

Start each day clean, fresh.
What you knew yesterday,
what you thought you had all figured out,
no longer exists.

river current

You were the river
eroding shorelines
constantly flowing.

I believed
I could stand on the sandbar
in the middle
and you wouldn’t hurt me.

You swept me up
and into the current
proving how helpless
I was all along.

take control

Remember
there is no right or wrong
take control of your life if you want it
and I know you do.
Find what doesn’t work
and what does,
for you.
Experiment
engage in trial periods
carve through the brush to find your path.
No one else will do it for you.

emotions from a wild mind

Taking control over me
they have climbed into the driver’s seat
to steer off in a new direction
deviating so far from where I was
and wanted to stay.
Emotions
turned free from a wild mind
to cause mayhem and disrupt the planned route,
pushing me to the cliff’s edge
without my feet ever touching the ground.

Too far to turn back around,
I cannot jump back on to the ledge
once I descend in air,
so I fall
and drag you with me.

If only I could take a firmer hold of the wheel
and stay in the lane,
I would.

no control

I saw it coming,
knew what was about to happen.
Watching the scenes unfold
powerlessly,
of meant to be,
though I knew not the reasoning.

Understand, to not understand.

Sometimes, you have no control,
and what will be, will be.

see the forest too

Stop where you are.
Look at the tree, the single tree
in front of you,
and the one beside.
But also, look beyond.
Look out, at the giant forest
standing tall in the background,
where some trees in the front
can be distinguished,
but the further you look
the more they all blur together.
A sea of greens and browns,
needles and leaves,
rocks and twigs
individual, but collective.

When you cannot see the forest for the trees,
you lose the collective.
Stop, step back,
appreciate the forest
and your tree within it.

buried treasure

Work it out,
like a tangled, tight knot
in the back of your neck
that when your fingers land on it
after searching across skin for miles,
it’s like finding buried treasure.
Flex the fingers,
open wide the treasure box
then dig deep, down,
until you find the bottom.

I find buried treasure all over
and throughout my body,
but this large box before me
was difficult to open.
My flexed fingers digging in deep
will show me what’s inside,
for everything is treasure
if viewed with an open mind.
