put on a new show

The old is familiar
and mindless
but is that really what you want?

Expose your mind
to the never-seen-before.
It will be OK.
You know how to protect yourself.
You can explore new things
and maybe even
discover new joy.

Putting on your old favorite show
for background noise
ends up being what you watch anyways
for the eleventh time
and when it’s done
and the pages remain empty
you feel empty too.
Challenge yourself.
You can put on a new show
allow it to captivate you
and simultaneously
spark inspiration for your words.

You can have it both ways,
which is what you want, anyway.

Stop putting yourself in boxes
behind barricades.
You’re capable of more than you realize
or imagine.

expanding beyond

Playing timid
has kept me safe
behind the walls of smiles and acquiescence
for a long time.

Eventually the walls come down
to cast glimpses of ferocity and desire
upon the shocked faces
of those who expected less from me.
They can hardly believe it.
Their painted image of me, shattered.

For me, the focal,
at last I reach expansion.
Expanding beyond me, beyond them,
for me.

longing heart

How do you tell them
how your heart aches to see them,
be near them, hear their story
and of the expansive burst in your chest
you feel the moment you see them?

When you say
“I’ve missed you”
or “It’s so good to see you”
do they also hear the words you want to say
but don’t?

Sometimes words cannot do justice
the bodily sensations of love and longing,
you know it by feeling
and hope they feel it too.
