clouds gifting chances

Clouds drape over each other
across the sky above,
a soft barrier between the sun and the earth.

Gifting the sun a chance
to be alone with herself
in private
permission to take a restful day.
Her rays permeate the clouds still
without needing to show her full self.

Gifting the earth a chance
to reacquaint with the coolness of coming fall,
embracing the act of letting go
and slowing down, slowly.
Gifting the earth and her inhabitants
opportunities to re-calibrate with the energy shift
and look ahead to changes still awaiting.

Breathe deep, slow breaths
of the cool, soft air
beneath the gray and fluffy blanket
draped over and around us.

voices in the rain

Raindrops fall from the sky
soft and quiet at first,
then heavy and loud,
washing away the collections of dirt and dust,
gifting the ground, and all that rises from it,
with a new heartbeat.

I hear voices in my head.
They tell me what I’m supposed to do and when.
When I don’t listen, they scream at me
until I conform,
giving them the victory.
I recognize them, I know who they belong to,
familiarity offers no advantages.

I can hear the rain through closed windows,
rhythmic.
I wonder if it knows how much power it carries,
how much we depend on it.

Open the door to immerse my body
in this falling magic.
Wash away the voices down the gutter
to hear my own at last.
This is how I find peace today.

smooth, soft, sky

Sky painted by an ombre
blue to pink to grey to white
a continuous gradient
smooth as a hardwood floor,
no clouds to ruffle the texture up.

Wrap me in the softness
as it descends upon me like a
fresh-from-the-dryer bedsheet
whipped high above the bed to,
in each fibre’s own time,
grace upon the mattress
and skin.

shatter the standards

I set standards high in the sky
so I can see them
but never touch them,
always a step or two beyond.
Highlighting the distance
between where I am
and where I should be.
Self-righteous, I feel,
to see them so high,
slightly out of reach.

Motivating,
and destructive.
If I stumble on one loose rock
then I slide all the way to the bottom
to start from the beginning
again.
No mercy.

Shatter those standards
into small, sharp shards
for when I shatter
from the pressure
and start to fall.

If I shatter,
then they should too.

The sky dances and screams

The sky dances and screams
with lightning and thunder,
muffled by the houses and trees
I can only make out bits and pieces,
not her whole story.

Feel her anguish,
admire her vulnerability,
wait until she has said all she needs to say.

Show your own vulnerability,
come out from behind your protective walls
to meet her,
listen to her, comfort her.

I have been where you are
and I am here for you.
Scream, cry, punch,
let it all out.
I will still be here
when you start to feel better
and the storm begins to pass.

The sun will come out

The sun has come up today
just as the song promised yesterday
it would.

Watch, stare,
as trees, grass and houses
come into view
illuminated
by the sky turning soft blues and pinks
softly, gently.

The sun will come out tomorrow, too.

More beauty awaits us then.

Strings in the sky

Haphazard strings
clumped together and strewn apart
dance across the setting sun,
with the wind
drawing closer and louder.

Coordinated strings
shaped to form a ‘V’,
multiple ‘V’s’ actually, size
and deepness ranging.

Fragmented strings
broken into beads along the thread
each a part of the whole,
beating wings
singing.

As the individual beads become clear
they blend,
mutating once more
into a cluster of thread,
dancing away
across the sky.
