You came back into my life
like an overnight snowfall,
one morning I woke up
and there you were:
soft, but ominous.

take control
Remember
there is no right or wrong
take control of your life if you want it
and I know you do.
Find what doesn’t work
and what does,
for you.
Experiment
engage in trial periods
carve through the brush to find your path.
No one else will do it for you.
drops of red wine
You taste so good
manipulating my brain chemistry
to make me miserable,
doubtful,
unwell.
Despite strawberry, vanilla and chocolate notes
the skull on your label
paints the real picture,
not the words.
Cutting down to my bones
no skin to hide behind
I see old wounds still bleeding,
longing for care.
I forgot they were there,
I cannot see them without you.
Still, they bleed,
drops of red wine.
sparkling snowflake
Amidst the brown grass
dirt-covered pavement
and branches stiff, stripped of leaves,
be the sparkling snowflake
in the not-yet-melted snowbank below.
Stand tall in your sparkle
case colorful, shimmering light around you,
make them take notice.
Bring your beauty regardless of circumstance
or comparison.
Be a one-of-a-kind sparkling snowflake.
Be you.
light on dark
Dark wood floors show everything.
Dust, dirt, hair, debris,
nothing blends in.
You were a single, long hair
against the deep mahogany
and black cabinets.
Shining solo, proud and strong
I saw you,
and the rest blurred away into darkness.
You were magic, are magic,
impossible to miss.
discomfort of stillness
I will meet you in the discomfort
of stillness,
where distractions are forcibly removed,
leaving no alternative option
but to stay here, in the stillness,
until it becomes comfortable.
no control
I saw it coming,
knew what was about to happen.
Watching the scenes unfold
powerlessly,
of meant to be,
though I knew not the reasoning.
Understand, to not understand.
Sometimes, you have no control,
and what will be, will be.
just sit
Grant myself permission
to sit, just sit
here, with a glass of wine
and blanket wrapped around my shoulders,
eyes fixed, but unfocused
on the flickering candle
there, on the coffee table.
Sit. Just sit,
and do nothing else.
mole hills into mountains
Sometimes
all it takes,
is listening to
and empathizing with others
to realize,
no matter how real
my pain and struggles may seem,
my mind often gets the better of me
and turns mole hills
into mountains.
how fast change happens
We can see
hundreds of different sunsets
all in one night,
a kaleidoscope of colors,
where to look away even for a minute
and look back again,
decorates our eyes with a brand new view,
and we wonder,
at how fast change happens.
We can see this,
marvel at and treasure
our lives, and how fast change happens,
with this same sense of wonder
if we choose.
